The MASTERS and Rites of Passage LCD programs are designed to develop leaders for the 21st Century and beyond. By inspiring a personal vision in leadership and service; to establish goals and construct action plans that transition visions into reality. The programs are designed to enhance school performance, increase school retention, support teachers and administrators, reduce gang participation and increase higher education enrollment. This program targets young men ages 13 -18 years of age; particularly those living in underserved areas and empowerment zones. However, the program will be adapted for young ladies. As young people approach critical junctures in their lives; education, vision, planning, modeling and support, are just a few of the competencies required to reverse the cycle of spiritual, financial and educational poverty.
Through entrepreneurial instruction students will be engaged in project based learning activities to understand the relevance of education in real life situations. Youth will work together to solve problems and reflect on their experiences. Aspects of the program will be taught by experts in various disciplines. The curriculum will include a series of learning sessions that take place throughout the school year. During these sessions, volunteer mentors, tutors and subject matter experts share their knowledge and experience with the participants on life skill projects and engage them activities. Young people in this program or the mentoring program must satisfy certain leadership objectives, engage in community service projects, serve as peer mentors and meet specific leadership goals and criteria.
